About UPPCS Examination (Uttar Pradesh- Provincial Civil Services)
The UPPCS Examination, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), is one of the most prestigious state-level competitive examinations in India. It serves as the gateway to various administrative, police, and revenue services in the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
The exam is designed to select dynamic, ethical, and capable officers who can effectively contribute to the governance and development of the state.
Purpose of the UPPCS Exam
The main objective of the UPPCS Exam is to recruit candidates for Group A and Group B posts in different departments of the Uttar Pradesh Government, such as:
Deputy Collector (SDM)
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)
Block Development Officer (BDO)
Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax)
District Commandant (Home Guards)
District Employment Officer, and many more.
These officers play a key role in implementing government policies, maintaining law and order, and ensuring the welfare of citizens at the grassroots level.
Structure of the UPPCS Examination
The UPPCS exam is conducted in three stages, similar to the UPSC pattern — Prelims, Mains, and Interview.
1️⃣ Preliminary Examination
Nature: Objective Type (Multiple Choice Questions)
Papers: Two papers
Paper I – General Studies I (150 Questions, 200 Marks)
Paper II – General Studies II (CSAT) (100 Questions, 200 Marks)
Duration: 2 hours each
Purpose: Screening test to shortlist candidates for Mains.
Note: Paper II is qualifying in nature; candidates must score at least 33% marks.
2️⃣ Main Examination
Nature: Descriptive / Written Examination
Total Papers: 8 (6 counted for merit + 2 qualifying)
Subjects include:
Essay (Paper I)
General Studies I, II, III, IV (each 200 Marks)
Optional Subject (Paper I & II)
Hindi & English (Qualifying Papers)
Total Marks (for merit): 1500
This stage tests a candidate’s depth of knowledge, analytical ability, and clarity of expression.
3️⃣ Interview / Personality Test
Marks: 100
Conducted at the UPPSC Office, Prayagraj
Evaluates the candidate’s personality, confidence, leadership, and administrative aptitude.
The final merit list is prepared based on the Mains + Interview marks.
Eligibility Criteria (Basic Overview)
Nationality: Must be a citizen of India.
Age Limit: 21 to 40 years (age relaxations applicable as per category).
Education Qualification: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
